Morning roundup: Midseason grades have been posted

Nov. 4, 2012

The midseason grades are out for the Green Bay Packers.

As Press-Gazette reporter Rob Demovsky writes, the Packers continue to excel behind another MVP-caliber performance from Aaron Rodgers, but inconsistency running the ball remains an area of concern entering the season half of the season.

Given how things started for the Packers, headlined by their controversial 14-12 loss to Seattle in Week 3, they’re still in good position with a 5-3 record entering today’s last showdown with Arizona before next week’s bye.

“Though the grades in the Green Bay Press-Gazette’s annual midseason report card aren’t as high as they were last year, when the Packers were 8-0 on the way to a 15-1 regular season,” Demovsky writes. “They reflect a solid start to a season that in many ways mirrors their Super Bowl year of 2010, when they started 3-3 and had a slew of injuries.”

*Press-Gazette sports editor Mike Vandermause praises Packers coach Mike McCarthy’s aggressiveness on special teams during the first part of this season, but also cautions about the risk involved with such gambles (http://tinyurl.com/bh2zsan).

*On the eve of today’s game, the Packers activated Frank Zombo to their active roster, ending what’s been a rather uneventful five months for the third-year linebacker while recovering from a severe hamstring injury (http://tinyurl.com/cmjx3g5).

*The Packers beat writers are unanimous in their prediction of today’s game between the Packers and Arizona Cardinals (http://tinyurl.com/alxgloh).

*Press-Gazette reporter Pete Dougherty gives you three things to watch for in today’s game, including the Cardinals’ underrated inside pass rush and their perennially volatile receiving threat Larry Fitzgerald (http://tinyurl.com/b7lrz9g).
