Scouting report: Cardinals' passing defense

Nov. 4, 2012

The Cardinals rank No. 1 in sacks percentage, No. 4 in passing yards allowed and No. 2 in defensive passer rating (72.3).

Darnell Dockett (31) and Calais Campbell (26) are one of the best pairs of inside rushers in the league. Dockett has a good combination of power and quickness, and in the last six seasons has 29 1/2 sacks, though only one this year. Campbell (26) isn't as dynamic, but his 6-8 frame is difficult to see and throw over, and he has 24 sacks in the last four seasons, including three this year.

The Cardinals don't have a dominant outside rusher, but former Wisconsin player O'Brien Schofield (6-3, 242) and second-year pro Sam Acho (6-3, 257) get OK pressure from the outside and have seven sacks between them. Daryl Washington has been the revelation this season as an inside blitzer (eight sacks).

Second-year cornerback Patrick Peterson (6-1, 219) is a premier athlete but hasn't developed the skills to match. He has three interceptions, but teams pick on him because he can be fooled and turned by a good receiver. San Francisco made him look bad after the catch a couple of times Monday night.

Kerry Rhodes (6-3, 212) is a center fielder at safety who has 20 interceptions in his seven NFL seasons but isn't as physical as his size might suggest.
