Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media after the team's first practice following the bye week on Monday. Here are some highlights from his news conference:
*Good practice, good energy. Re-emphasized some points going into the division games. Shortended practice by design.
*Bryan Bulaga has a significant hip injury. There's a lot of conversation about the timeline of a possible return. The more people we talk to, we felt it was best to put him on injured reserve. Could potentially heal without surgery.
*Bulaga was working out, doesn't have crutches. Wants to play. You can't deny what's on the scan. This is in his best interest.
*Offensive line is at seven. That's where they were first six, seven weeks of the season. Sherrod's two-week window began today.
*Barclay and Van Roten look good in practice environment. They're growing as far as their understanding of what's being asked of them.
*Packers have a rotation at tackle position. Not going to get into who's where.
*Good to see Vic So'oto. Didn't get to see much of him. Anytime you have one of your guys leave, it's good to have him back. It's a good fit. It will be a seamless position for him, gives you depth there.
*Clay Matthews update coming on Wednesday.
*With a full week of work, T.J. Lang will be ready to go. Have a lot of confidence in T.J. at right tackle.
*I feel very good about OLB depth. I don't know where Clay is but we have four.
*Nick Perry's wrist was more severe than we anticipated. Similiar to Nick Barnett and A.J. Hawk. One required surgery during the seaosn, one after. He was worked through and playing with but it continued to bother him. Everyone involved felt this was the best for him given the wrist and number of bones in there.
