Ryan Taylor was just as surprised as anyone to get a letter from the NFL office last week informing him he was fined $21,000 for what the league called an “illegal blindside” block during Randall Cobb’s 28-yard punt return against Arizona on Nov. 4.
After all, he wasn’t even penalized for the block.
“I didn’t expect it at all,” Taylor said. “If you watch the play, I didn’t expect a flag and didn’t expect a fine.”
Taylor blocked Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson near the sideline.
"I guess if he would’ve been looking at me, I would’ve been fine," Taylor said.
Coach Mike McCarthy wouldn’t comment on it when asked today.
Taylor said he has appealed the fine through his agent but hasn’t heard back from the league. He said some of his teammates have had fines reduced.
“I have faith in the appeals process,” Taylor said. “I hope they reduce mine or rescind it, but we’ll see.”
