Waupaca players have taken long trip to state football championship game

When Waupaca won its first state football championship, in 2006, Beau Ash was a wide-eyed sixth-grader who served as the Comets' ball boy.

Instead of cleaning and collecting footballs, Ash is carrying them these days as a 1,000-yard rusher for an unbeaten Comets team that will shoot for its third WIAA state football championship Friday morning at Camp Randall Stadium.

Ash is one of several Waupaca players who grew up with a close connection to Comets' football and knows all about the program's winning tradition. ...
