McCarthy: DE Neal returns to practice, 'looked good'

Nov. 15, 2012

Following are the highlights from coach Mike McCarthy’s short press conference after practice Thursday:

**Defensive lineman Mike Neal returned to practice after missing Wednesday because of a sprained ankle and appeared to move well.

“Mike looked good today,” McCarthy said. “He practiced, I watched him in individual (drills), actually had probably too good of a pass rush there at the end of red zone. See how he responds tomorrow, but I liked what I saw from Mike Neal.”

** McCarthy said cornerback Sam Shields did more today than he had in practice Monday and Wednesday. Shields is coming back from a sprained ankle.

“Shields looked a lot better today,” McCarthy said. “Actually took some opponent reps playing receiver. That’s what he needs, he needs to get out there and put that foot in the ground. I definitely felt starting Monday to today he looked much better. We’ll see how he feels in the morning.”

** McCarthy said he expects tight end Andrew Quarless to occasionally miss practice because of soreness in his post-operative knee. Quarless, who recently came off the physically unable to perform list, didn’t practice today after practicing Wednesday.

** McCarthy said fullback John Kuhn has looked like “his old self” in practice this week. Kuhn is coming back from a hamstring injury.
