More fruits, vegetables and whole grain, fewer calories, and lower amounts of sodium and saturated fat. That could be a description of a healthier diet for anyone, but it's also the focus of the new federal requirements for school lunches that went into effect July 1. Most of the changes had to be implemented this school year, but a few, including most of those related to school breakfasts, have later deadlines.

The rules, developed by the USDA and based on recommendations from a committee formed by the Institute of Medicine, are part of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act.Fruits and veggies
