Menasha gallery, Fox Valley artists gearing up for the end of the world (just in case)

When Mary Jo Weidert was planning the 2012 exhibit schedule for Wild Apple Glass Studio & Gallery, another calendar sprang to mind as inspiration.

On Dec. 21, the long-count calendar of the Maya - a Mesoamerican culture based in southern Mexico, Guatemala and northern Belize (often referred to as Mayan) - reaches the end of a cycle and resets. This has given rise to speculation about the significance, if any, of that date, including potential cataclysmic scenarios or other notable world events. Some even have suggested it could mark the end of everything.
