Sen. Johnson undignified in criticizing voters

In his post-election interview with the Associated Press, Sen. Ron Johnson referred to people who voted for President Obama as "not properly informed" and "falling prey to demagogue demagoguing solutions." I believe that concluding the majority of Americans are ignorant is undignified and irresponsible for a United States senator. Just because people do not kowtow to his tea party, right-wing beliefs, does not make them wrong. As Edward R. Murrow pointed out during the Communist witch hunts of the 1950s (which were led by another extreme senator from Wisconsin), "Accusation is not proof."

Being dissatisfied with the outcome of Tuesday's election is understandable, but to demean those who don't share the senator's point of view in the manner in which he did is both a disservice to the office he holds and to the people of our state he represents.Unfortunately, remarks like his illustrate why there is such divisiveness and partisanship in both Washington and our country.

As one of Johnson's constituents and employers (He serves all Wisconsinites.), I would ask that he publicly apologize for the remarks and move forward with what voters elected him to do: the people's business.
