A Bellevue man faces up to 25 years in prison after he pleaded guilty Friday to killing a man in a hit-and-run crash earlier this year.

Felix Ruiz, 18, has a sentencing hearing scheduled for Jan. 11 in Brown County Circuit Court. He was charged in August for the July 8 death of Daryl Wayka, 52, who police said was hit by a vehicle while walking in the 1400 block of Main Street on Green Bay's east side.

Authorities have said Ruiz is nearly blind and was driving his brother's car while trying to hug his girlfriend when the crash happened. Family members said Ruiz couldn't get a driver's license due to his eye condition, according to a criminal complaint.

Ruiz had fled to Mexico, but returned and was arrested in August while trying to hide in a Howard apartment.

Rene Ruiz-Mosqueda, 22, who shares the same Bellevue address as Felix Ruiz, has been charged with misdemeanor obstructing in connection with the case and is scheduled for a final pre-trial hearing Jan. 8.
