On Friday, Packers running back Cedric Benson expressed optimism he would be able to play on Dec. 9 against the Lions — the first game after he’s eligible to come off the temporary injured reserve list.
Today, he didn’t sound quite as sure.
“That’s when I can come off this deal, but we didn’t necessarily say that’s the game we’re going to play in,” Benson said. “But we hope to be running by then.”
Benson, who was injured on Oct. 7 against Indianapolis, could have begun practicing today but did not. The temporary IR rule allows players to practice six weeks after going on the list and to play two weeks later.
He admitted that the Lisfranc injury to his left foot hasn’t healed yet. He said he planned another visit with foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson of Charlotte.
“He’s the guy (the Packers) trust,” Benson said. “There’s progress happening, and there’s some stagnant things happening, so we’ll see.”
