Earlier openings pay off in shopping juggernaut

Black Friday crashed the Thanksgiving dinner party this year and it appears there's no chance it will retreat back to Friday.

Stores that opened between 8 p.m. and midnight Thursday for the annual shopping ritual were swamped with thousands of people.

After what appeared to be a slow start around 7 p.m., Fox Cities residents skipped any thoughts of going to bed and headed to the Fox River Mall area starting about 8 p.m. ...
