Shoppers clear local store shelves of Hostess snacks

But liquidation also means a loss of 21 jobs in De Pere

The local retail outlet sold out of Twinkies earlier in the day Nov. 16.

It's a snack some consumers may not have eaten in 20-plus years, but late last week people developed a ravenous desire to stock up on Twinkies and other Hostess products.

With Hostess facing the prospect of liquidation, consumers headed to the snack aisles to grab what they could of the yellow cream-filled cakes (and other Hostess snacks) before they were gone.

"It was pretty much all gone by Friday (Nov. 16) afternoon - especially the Twinkies, they were gone right away," said Josh Vandervest, one of the part-owners and managers of the Kewaunee Piggly Wiggly. "Everything was gone by Saturday ...
