Matthews out, but Harvin doubtful for Sunday

Nov. 30, 2012

While the Packers will be without their biggest defensive playmaker in Clay Matthews Sunday, but Minnesota wide receiver/kick returner Percy Harvin, is doubtful to play.

Harvin, who has missed the Vikings' last two games with a sprained ankle, leaves a void in Minnesota's receiving game, which features no other player with more than 400 receiving yards this season.

Harvin's absence also puts more stress on the Vikings' running game and league-leading back Adrian Peterson.

“He’s a running back playing receiver,” Capers said. “They’ve used him back there, so you have to be ready for him to do both, but he’s probably one of the reason you’ve seen Adrian Peterson having the kind of year he’s having.”

Meanwhile, Matthews will miss his third straight game this Sunday as the outside linebacker was ruled out Friday with a hamstring injury.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Matthews, who didn’t practice this week, didn’t venture past rehab this week and wasn’t sure what his prognosis is for next week.

“He’s making progress, he’s just not ready to play in the game,” McCarthy said. “He’s not ready.”

The Packers also ruled out tight end Andrew Quarless (knee), running back Johnny White (concussion), defensive backs Charles Woodson (collarbone) and Sam Shields (ankle), and defensive lineman C.J. Wilson.

Wide receiver Greg Jennings is probable to play for the first time since having surgery for a core muscle injury last month, but Donald Driver is questionable after not practicing this week with a thumb injury that’s been bothering him for the past month.
