Golden Sands Resource Conservation & Development Council, Stevens Point, was recognized Oct. 25 with two awards at the annual meeting of the Wisconsin Association of RC&D Councils. The Wisconsin Association represents seven of Wisconsin's RC&D Councils and partners with the National Association of RC&D Councils, which represents 375 RC&D Councils nationwide.

Al Barden, vice president, accepted Golden Sands RC&D Council's award for Outstanding Performance by a Council for 2012. The council and staff reviewed the organization's fiscal stability and reorganized internal structures. A new marketing plan was developed to re-brand and promote the organization.

Kaycie Stushek, Golden Sands RC&D's Regional Aquatic Invasive Species specialist, received the 2012 award for Outstanding Program Assistant. An excellent networker, Stushek built up a wide base of volunteers for tasks ranging from pulling Eurasian water milfoil to rearing beetles for the biological control of purple loosestrife.

The Wisconsin Association of RC&D Councils also presented the 2012 award for Outstanding Supporting Organization to the Department of Natural Resources Division of Water, Water Quality.

The RC&D program, created by the USDA in 1962, is celebrating 50 years of protecting and promoting our country's natural resources.

Law

Elizabeth Corbett, an attorney with Wisconsin Judicare, received the 2012 Howard B. Eisenberg Lifetime Achievement Award on Nov. 3 in Milwaukee.
