According to a recent National Consumers League study, kids are getting cellphones at an increasingly younger age and the wireless industry now targets their market toward preteens with the majority receiving them at age 10-11, said John Breyault, NCL vice president of public policy, telecommunications and fraud.

The survey also revealed that the top three reasons parents made a cellphone purchase were safety (84 percent), tracking after-school activities (73 percent) and fulfilling the child's request (16 percent) and found that roughly a quarter of the parents are facing higher ...
