Both Deena and Dominic Sciortino have experience with food service, but recently decided to get into the business on their own in downtown Amherst.

The couple re-opened the former Amherst Cafe, renaming it Sciortino Amherst Cafe, in October at 122 S. Main St. Deena, originally from Iola, had previously worked at the Northland Ballroom, while Dominic attended bakery school before working in construction.

In addition to a full breakfast menu, the restaurant offers lunch items such as a selection of hamburgers along with other choices such as Italian sausage and beef. There are also baked ...
