Having spent the fall criss-crossing the nation as the Republican vice presidential candidate, Rep. Paul Ryan has resettled into his role as Washington budget wonk and is a key player in the negotiations over yet another looming fiscal crisis.

The Janesville Republican, who was re-elected to an eighth two-year term in the House of Representatives, was granted a waiver this week to continue as chairman of the House Budget Committee. House Republicans have a two-year limit on committee chairmanships.
