Tom Stoffel, the city's comptroller-treasurer who helped guide the community for more than three decades, is retiring in January.

Stoffel, who joined the city in May 1981, submitted a retirement letter last week that was accepted by the Common Council on Monday night. His last day will be Jan. 18.

Mayor Don Merkes said Stoffel has been a key department head whose experience will be difficult to replace in day-to-day operations and especially at budget time. ...
