Living in good health takes long-term planning and follow through. It's not just a destination, number on the scale or size of clothing you wear. It's a journey of daily choices that lead to healthy outcomes.
Better health starts with you. Agnesian HealthCare recognizes this and through the Know & Go program is educating community members by offering programing designed to help individuals work toward achieving and maintaining healthy lifestyle goals.
"Education and early detection are key in disease prevention, and with the tools to make better decisions we can help individuals live better," says Heather Schmidt, DO, a family medicine physician at the Fond du Lac Regional Clinic West.
"Label reading, food selections, portion control and understanding triggers that lead us away from our goals are actions that we address in our Know & Go program."
Journeys: a health resource center offers ongoing programing and education in areas that community members are looking for guidance and direction. It's not just about losing weight.
"We are all different. We have different genetic backgrounds. Some people are disposed to heart disease, some people are borderline diabetic. The awareness of these conditions gives you the opportunity to make changes before the symptoms become a larger concern or health risk," says Dr. Schmidt.
You often hear providers in health care talk about "numbers." Your base line blood pressure, cholesterol and body mass are just a few numbers that tell providers about your health. Knowing those numbers and discussing them with a provider is very important. Knowing where you are at and where you need to be is another aspect of the Know & Go program.
Fun reminders to drink plenty of water, exercise daily and wear sunscreen are other good tips and good to KNOW & GO.
