LIR gift certificates available; Dec. schedule announced

Learning in Retirement is winding down its fall semester. During December, members will be receiving their 2013 Spring catalog.

This organization is for all persons interested in continual learning who may join at any time for an annual fee of $75. The curriculum is developed by the members while the clerical work is completed by the UW-O Office of Continuing Education and Extension. Wondering about a gift for someone? Gift certificates in any amount toward membership or special events may be obtained by calling the Extension office. The new semester program will include the program settings in easy-to-park locations.

Also, there are a variety of exercise programs available at the Evergreen Retirement Community. Information may be obtained by calling Kari Reynebeau at Evergreen at 920-237-2160.

December programs include:

? Dec. 4: An Afternoon Wasted With Tom Lehrer, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Evergreen Retirement Community with Tom Lehrer and Bill Mattes. A former Harvard math professor, Lehrer wrote and performed satirical songs in the 50s and 60s, which are still relevant and even funnier today.

? Dec. 11: UW-O Jazz Concert, 6:30 p.m. pre-concert lecture; 7:30 concert in the Arts and Communications Bldg. at UW-O, with the presenter Dr. Marty Robinson, professor of trumpet and jazz studies, with performances by up-and-coming UW-O music students. Tour of the nativity collection at the Oshkosh Algoma Boulevard Methodist Church, with luncheon at 11 a.m.; 1 p.m. with the coordinator, Lois Hedge. Viewing of over 100 nativity sets will be followed by a Christmas luncheon.

? Dec. 12: Wisconsin Poets of the Green Fire, 1:30 to 3:30 at Evergreen, with Don Burdick the presenter giving voice to America's first naturalists who came from Wisconsin (and also were poets) including John Muir, Aldo Leopold and August Derleth.

? Dec. 17: Mary and Joseph's Christmas, 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Evergreen. Horace Davis will be conducting a fellowship remembering the time of Advent and Christmas with words, video clips and music.
