Trial under way in fatal Green Bay stabbing

A lawyer said he hopes to persuade a Brown County jury that a 32-year-old Green Bay man was acting in self-defense when he fatally stabbed his live-in girlfriend this summer.

A jury trial got under way Monday for Richard Gardipee, who is accused of the June 30 stabbing death of Wendy Garcia, 26, at their home at 944 Christiana St. He is charged with first-degree intentional homicide as domestic abuse and faces a misdemeanor obstructing charge for allegedly struggling with an arresting officer.
