Thanks to Peterson, Packers rushing defense plummets to No. 15

Dec. 4, 2012

Adrian Peterson gashed the Packers defense for 210 yards rushing on Sunday, which dropped Green Bay to No. 15 in the NFL in rushing defense and No. 24 in yards per rush.

The Packers' run defense will be tested mightily over the final month of the season, with games against Peterson again, the Bears' Matt Forte and the Titans' Chris Johnson.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy said he wasn't happy with his team's tackling on Sunday. Peterson had an 82-yard run for a touchdown when at least three Packers players missed tackles.

Defensive coordinator Dom Capers said that despite Sunday's performance, overall the Packers' tackling has been better than last season.

"I think that our tackling’s improved tremendously this year over a year ago," said Capers. "We knew going in – all you had to do was watch tape, this guy (Peterson) makes a lot of people miss because the one thing he does is he attacks tacklers and he’s big, strong and explosive, and you’ve got to wrap up. You see an awful lot of guys who are good tacklers miss on this guy and, unfortunately, when you do miss, he’s got the explosiveness to turn what would be a 6-, 8-, 10-yard play into the one we saw."

Overall, the Packers defense ranks No. 15 in yards allowed and No. 13 in points given up.

On offense, the Packers rank No. 16 in yards gained and No. 12 in points scored.
