Rodgers wants Benson to return next season

Dec. 4, 2012

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers would love to see injured running back Cedric Benson return to the Packers next season.

"Iím hopeful we can bring him back next year," said Rodgers on his ESPN Milwaukee radio show (http://bit.ly/BTzHn) this afternoon. "He still has a lot left. I know he takes care of his body the right way."

Benson injured his foot in the Indianapolis game in Week 5 and hasn't played since. The Packers placed him on the injured reserve list with the designation to return. But Benson underwent surgery last week and was ruled out for the season.

Benson, 29, signed a one-year, veterans' minimum contract in August and will be a free agent after the season.

Rodgers said Benson was a very good fit for the Packers.

"I know he feels as other guys who come from other teams to Green Bay," said Rodgers. "I know he feels this is a different place. He feels special here. Heís appreciated here. Hopefully we can bring him back."

Benson, who arrived in the middle of training camp, was the Packers' go-to running back before he suffered a Lisfranc foot injury.

"That was real disappointing because Ced and I have become close," said Rodgers. "Iitís been fun to have a guy from the '05 draft here.

"We hit it off pretty quick. Sat next to him in meetings and still do. Heís been really good for us. He brought a spark to us early in the season. Unfortunately we couldnít keep him healthy. We miss him a lot. Always appreciate him being around the facility."
