Elena Trujillo opened Russian Delights & International Flavors more than seven years ago to bring European specialty foods and liquors to the Fox Cities.

This month she’s getting her last deliveries and winding down to closing the shop at 2171 W. Wisconsin Ave. right after Christmas.

While she had loyal customers who were well traveled and loved her pirozhki, sausages and imported meat, it was never enough to give her a paycheck.

“I paid my bills,” she said. “I made the decision three years ago to close and I was waiting until I paid the business loan. I didn’t want to put that on my husband’s shoulders.”

Trujillo owned the shop with husband Joe.

“Customers are sad and I’m sad too,” she said. “They’re like friends. I knew their names.”

Trujillo said after the store shuts, she’ll go back to Russia for several months to visit her ailing mother, then return to the Fox Cities in the spring.
