December tidings from the Colby Public Library.
Trying to get those last minutes gifts completed? Consider joining other adults at the craft/hobby night in the community room of the Colby City Hall. This session begins at 4 p.m. and is open to anyone who wants to enjoy camaraderie while working on a favorite pastime.
For December only, the date has been changed to the second Friday of the month, Dec. 14. If you wish, bring a snack to share.
Book clubs this month are enjoying holiday reads. "A Redbird Christmas" by Fannie Flagg will be discussed at 1 p.m. Dec.18 by the afternoon club. All the members will join together for one discussion and are invited to bring items for a potluck.
"December Lost" by Richard Paul Evans will be the book of discussion for Wednesday evening's club on Dec. 19. A potluck will begin at 7 p.m. - please note the earlier time.
December marks the final month for "TV Nostalgia." A featured display on "The Wonderful World of Disney" will be highlighted. The show ran from 1969 to 1979. Our children's department will be decked out in Disney décor, too, for the month.
Stop in the library to checkout our selection of holiday items. The library has songs of the season available in CD format, movies for all ages and a variety of holiday books and magazines for all tastes.
Story times continue through Dec. 13. Preschoolers, ages 2 and older, and their parents and caregivers, are invited Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m. to enjoy stories, songs and activities geared especially for them. Another session will begin Jan. 17, and new participants are invited to join.
Families are encouraged at anytime to join the "1000 Books Before (the end of) Kindergarten." So far, 90 community children have signed up and received colorful "Old MacDonald" binders to record books read. Several have completed a level or two and have received animal stickers and small prizes for the accomplishment. Details are at the library on how to join this educational program. All you need is a library card, as books need to be checked out from the Colby Public Library for the program.
We have an assortment of Colby Public Library canvas book bags for sale for only $10 by the Friends of the CPL group. Available in a rainbow of colors, they would make handy gifts for the readers on your list.
Tax notices will be arriving in December, but look for a brightly colored insert about the CPL's upcoming events for 2013. If you do not receive one, they will be available at the library.
The library will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 and Jan. 1 for the holidays. We hope to see you soon!
