The man accused in the Feb. 21 brutal slaying of his father was on Thursday sentenced to life in a mental institution, but he will have a chance at early release after a judge ordered a review of the man's mental status every six months.

Shawano County Circuit Judge James Habeck ordered the sentence for Joshua Johnson, 21, of Wittenberg. Johnson was charged in February with first-degree intentional homicide in the death of his father, Donald Johnson, 53, of Wittenberg.
