The "Wiener Dog Race On Ice" event will be held Dec. 15, between the first and second periods of the Fond du Lac Cardinal Hockey game against the Janesville Bluebirds at the Blue Line Family Ice Center. This is a great event to attend as a family to see an exciting game of hockey, a fun-filled race of wiener dogs running from goal line to goal line, and also be one of the first in Fond du Lac to see "Hot Shots," a new promotion held between the second and third periods.
All fans in attendance at the game will receive a colored coupon at the rink entrance valid for a BOGO home-style cheeseburger at Tuckers Restaurants. Fans holding the same colored coupon as the bandana of the winning wiener dog will also receive a coupon for a free bowl of chili from Tuckers.
Then, for the first time, Badger Masonry of Fond du Lac, in support of the Fondy Hockey Booster Club, will provide fans with the opportunity to play "Hot Shots." Prior to the second intermission, fans will be able to purchase a raffle ticket at the game for a chance to win one of four "Hot Shot" spots on the ice. These four contestants will compete in an early two-round shoot out with the top two shooters advancing to the third round. The top shooter from these final two shooters will receive $1 for every shot(s) he made in the contest and get an opportunity to take a $100 shot from the far goal line (max. winnings $160).
Attendees at this hockey game will also be able to help the Fond du Lac County's Department of Social Services "Hats & Mittens" campaign. Fans donating new mittens or winter hats at the game will receive four raffle tickets for each item donated for a chance to win one of many great prizes that have been donated by the business community. Raffle tickets may also be purchased individually for $1 per ticket, seven for $5, or $7 for an armful. Proceeds from the raffle will purchase new hats and mittens for the campaign collection.
"The wiener dog race has really become one of the favorite events our students plan each year," said Jennifer King, marketing and business teacher at Fond du Lac High School. "Not only is it entertaining for the fans, but by tying the event in with a local cause, this year hats and mittens for children in our community, it really helps make a positive impression on our young adults."
The puck drops at 5 p.m. with doors opening one hour prior to game time. Ticket pricing is as follows: Adults and college students - $4, K-12 Students - $2, Senior citizens (62+) and non-school aged children - free. Fond du Lac High School athletic passes are accepted.
