Flu season starts early in central Wisconsin

No flu-related hospitalizations have been reported in Wood or Portage counties so far this year, but health officials in both counties said they expect the flu season to start early in central Wisconsin.

"It does look like the flu is hitting early in the state, and we do tend to follow the state trend," said Portage County health officer Jenny Gaffke.

The state Division of Public Health reported four flu-related deaths and 26 hospitalizations as of Dec. 4. No hospitalizations had been reported by this time last year. ...
