A family displaced by a fire that destroyed their house on Dec. 6 is turning to loved ones for help through the holidays.

Pam and Troy Vanderhoof and their three children are staying at the Holiday Inn in Fond du Lac until they find a temporary home.

"We have a lot of family and friends helping us through this," Pam Vanderhoof said.

They had only been in their newly constructed home at W5132 Maple Ridge Road in the Town of Byron for three days, ready to settle in for the holidays, when a fire broke out around 5 p.m. Thursday in the fireplace.

The new home, estimated to be valued at more than $400,000, is a total loss. The State Fire Marshall is investigating the exact cause of the fire.
