Chief: Cause of Wausau-area strip mall fire might never be known

It could take days or weeks to determine the cause of the Saturday night fire that destroyed a Weston strip mall that housed a Subway restaurant.

Steve Meilahn, chief of the Weston Fire Department, said investigators from the State Fire Marshal's office and the Everest Metro Police Department began to sift through the wreckage at 7702 Stone Ridge Drive Sunday morning. The high amount damage the fire did to the building will make their job harder, Meilahn said, and a cause might never be found.
