Green Bay city leaders are concerned that the city's downtown homeless shelter is generating a surge in police activity this year.

A special City Council committee meeting is scheduled later today to discuss issues associated with the St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter, 411 St. John St.

Mayor Jim Schmitt said neighbors and police officials have expressed concerns about problems since the shelter opened for the season Nov. 1. The facility provides emergency overnight shelter between November and April for up to 64 people a night. ...
