When Benjamin Todd Jealous stepped on stage to receive one of the ideological left's most prestigious awards, he was greeted with thunderous applause from the assembled audience, a collection of this nation's most unrepentant liberals.

Jealous came to the Nation Institute's annual gala to be honored with a $100,000 prize "for his unwavering dedication to civil and human rights."
