Burnett not fined by NFL for hit

Dec. 13, 2012

The NFL in effect said safety Morgan Burnett was wrongly penalized for unnecessary roughness against the Detroit Lions last week.

The Packers safety said he was not fined for the penalty, which was called when Burnett hit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson from behind on a 19-yard reception in the third quarter. The penalty presumably was for hitting Johnson in the head and neck area, but by not fining Burnett, the league is saying the hit was legal.
