Wausau plans revamp for west side of downtown

Downtown project would rebuild Second Avenue, improve neighborhood

City officials are forging ahead with plans to give Wausau's west-side downtown a facelift.

The city plans to spend roughly $825,000 next summer rebuilding Second Avenue, from Stewart Avenue to Elm Street, and adding features such as trees, green spaces, parking spots and street lighting to attract more residents to the area. The city's Capital Improvements and Street Maintenance Committee on Wednesday approved design plans for Second Avenue, but the project will need to go through public hearings before receiving final approval.
