Eight cars were involved in two separate crashes earlier today in Rothschild.

The two crashes occurred within 30 minutes of one another near Highway 29.

The first crash, which involved five vehicles, was reported at about 5:15 p.m. on Grand Avenue, near Shopko and Highway 29, Sgt. Brad Johnson of the Rothschild Police Department said.

Two people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries, he said. An infant which was riding in one of the cars was transported to the hospital for a checkup.

Johnson said one car slammed into the bumper of another, causing a chain reaction among three other cars following behind.

The second crash was reported at about 5:45 p.m. on a Highway 29 overpass, nearby the Grand Avenue crash, Johnson said.

Three cars were involved in the crash on Highway 29 but no injuries were reported.
