Morning roundup: Jennings' final stretch

Dec. 14, 2012

Greg Jennings finally feels good. That was evident Thursday, when he spoke unprompted but admiringly about Brandon Marshall’s rant a day earlier.

But these also are serious times for the Packers' top receiver.

As Press-Gazette reporter Rob Demovsky writes, in the final year of his contract and facing an uncertain future, Jennings is running out of time to salvage his season. He returned two weeks ago after missing eight games because of the abdominal tear that he sustained in the season opener against San Francisco that eventually required surgery.

In his first game back following the Nov. 1 surgery, Jennings caught four passes for 46 yards on Dec. 2 against Minnesota. However, last Sunday against Detroit, he caught only one pass for 27 yards.

Now, he has three more regular-season games, plus perhaps the playoffs, to change how his season may be perceived.

“It’s very important,” Jennings said. “Obviously, everybody wants to be healthy. Everybody wants to play and perform at a high level. That’s the way I am, and not just because I’m up after this year. Because that’s the way I set my standard of play.”

*In our Packers notebook, Press-Gazette reporter Pete Dougherty looks at the Packers-Bears pregame sniping and how it continued to escalate on Thursday.

It started when Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall went off in his Wednesday press conference on Green Bay Packers defensive backs Charles Woodson and Tramon Williams for comments after the teams’ first meeting that Marshall thought denigrated him and his team.

Now it’s Packers tight end Jermichael Finley trading barbs with Bears linebackers Brian Urlacher and Lance Briggs (http://tinyurl.com/c9xamua).

Dougherty’s notebook also looks at the Packers’ injury situation, Morgan Burnett not getting fined for his hit on Calvin Johnson plus other notes.

*Along with his notebook, Dougherty also chatted with readers at PackersNews.com on Thursday. You can read his transcript here: http://tinyurl.com/c9j35pk
