Raising taxes on our wealthiest citizens is necessary. One would hope compliance would follow out of a sense of patriotism. How much they're taxed is debatable and need not be more onerous than necessary. We have all had a hand in creating our country's debt. We must all pay according to our means. The rich should contribute their fair share. If the wealthy can't afford to bring down our debt, who can?
Hit hardest by the Great Recession the working class is in little position to deal with tax increases for the present. As for cutting Social Security and Medicare, the middle class invested in and earned these benefits. To cut them is wrong and as economically disadvantages as raising middle class tax rates. We all benefit from a strong economy. In 2008 the rich were bailed out to avoid another depression. Now it's their turn to pitch in.
In hard times everyone should be a factor and do what needs to be done. We need practical politicians who will act responsibly and represent all of us, not just their core constituency. Politicians have a job to do. Let them know they need to do it.
