This is response to Leonard Pitts column Dec. 6 that "In Colorado empty gun dorms send message."
Yes, it does send a message, but not the one you think it is. Concealed carry is for our protection, so we do not get other people excited every time they see a gun. I can legally carry openly, but the first thing people see is the gun, and they get all bent out of shape about it. But if they don't see it, it doesn't bother them. You see secrecy is part of the strategy that makes it work. The bad guys have to wonder, "Who's packin'?" and if they want to take the chance. The wrong chance could get them shot.
The dorm situation is the same thing, It will bother others who go there knowing there is a gun in every room, and more importantly the people who carry will be known to others. That ruins their secrecy. And the most important thing is that you are advertising to every drug crazed criminal where all the guns are, and targets the dorm for robbery. Those students are smarter than what you think, and realize this. Stick to subjects you know.
