To the editor:
Several months ago the board of Kingdom Come took a look into the future and asked themselves what would be happening ten years from now. One person said, "I hope we are no longer needed."
Yes, that is the hope and prayer for the future, but if the numbers of clients using the food pantry are any indication, that reality won't happen any time soon.
Last year at this time the number of families using the Kingdom Come food pantry was averaging about 115 each week. Over the past year that average has slowly been creeping upward until now we often have over 200 households shopping weekly. Thankfully, we continue to be blessed with plenty of food donations so that everyone leaves with two bags of groceries averaging about 30 lbs. total.
Our new addition which gives us warehouse room for storage as well as housing our resale shop has been a blessing this past year. Our four vehicles continue to add up the miles they are used. Volunteers continue to give of their time and energy.
However, the need grows and so at this giving time of year we ask everyone to consider how they might be able to help us. Financial donations are especially needed to buy food (which we do as we use Feeding America which gives us discounts on just about every item we pick up in Omro), to put fuel in our vehicles, pay the utility bills, buy packaging materials, pay for insurance etc. If you can not help with a monetary donation, consider giving the gift of time; volunteers are needed to stock shelves, repack food, carry out groceries, drive to pick up food and staff the resale shop, just to name a few areas where help is needed.
If you can help us with a check, please send it to: Kingdom Come, 520 Locust, Oconto Falls WI 54154. If you can give some time, just show up on Monday or Tuesday morning after 8 a.m.
If neither of those areas appeal to you, then please pray for our efforts. And God bless you everyone!
