Post-practice McCarthy: Several sit, but expected back Sunday

Dec. 19, 2012

Packers coach Mike McCarthy spoke to the media after practice on Wednesday. Here are some highlights from his news conference:

-The Packers were without nine players at practice: offensive linemen Jeff Saturday and T.J. Lang, wide receiver Jordy Nelson (hamstring), tight end Tom Crabtree (hamstring), running backs James Starks (knee) and Alex Green, linebacker Erik Walden, and defensive linemen C.J. Wilson (knee) and Jerel Worthy.

-Defensive back Charles Woodson was at practice, but still hasnt advanced past lightly working out on the scout team.

-T.J. Lang, Im encouraged hell be ready for Sunday based on information from Dr. Gray. It became evident some point on Monday. He had the symptoms.

-Alex Green is the same thing as Lang.

-Practice structure has been the same for last three weeks. I think were kind of at the minimum point for what we need to do to get ready for a game.

-Charles Woodson has not been cleared yet.

-Make sure you have a lot diesel for your snow blower. We talked about it in the team meeting. Its part of the planning. We talked about time management this week about the holidays and storm coming. Well adjust accordingly.

-Uncommon opponent. Weve done a lot more film study as a coaching staff. Its important to go back and look at these guys in all three phases. This is an important game for us. The momentum we created, its important for us to get this victory and improve as a football team.

-Jordy Nelson is getting better. His work yesterday was pretty extensive.

-I really do feel the bye week last year and what happened in the Giants game was overblown. The Giants beat us, but I looked at the way we practiced and all the things leading up to that game.

-Limited Erik Walden today. Hes been playing a lot. I anticipate hell be fine for Sunday.

-Edgar Bennett does our third-down plays/conversions. Hes done a good job with it. Its broken up by coach and situation. They take a lot of pride in it. Its very important. Our guys will start working on Minnesota tomorrow. We do a lot of pre-planning. Everyone has an area.

-Chris Johnson is definitely someone were focused on.

-James Jones has been so consistent. Hes had some remarkable catches. Hes really completed his game and doing all the little things. Hes doing a much-better job running blocking and things like that.

-Im a huge Brad Jones fan. I think Brad in a sense, he can do so many things well. He played probably too many positions and then he got the opportunity to play inside and be a play-maker in that role.
