A local furniture store is donating mattresses to those in need.

Slumberland Furniture, 5720 Windy Drive in Stevens Point, gave out 18 mattresses, box springs and frames to needy people Wednesday. The Slumberland store in Rib Mountain also gave away 18 beds last week.

"I don't want to see anyone sleep on the floor," said Mary Hesch, owner of both the Rib Mountain and Stevens Point Slumberland stores. "Some families have hard times, and they can't afford a bed, and I want to at least get them off the floor." ...
