The December meeting of the Marshfield Area Retired Educators Association was led by President Mark Denk. Guests included Jim Legner and Diane Ritzinger.

Scholarship applications will be sent to schools in January. Shari Stangl reported the Stratford Food Pantry would receive this month's donations along with a $50 gift card. Pat Tietyen will deliver the items. January donations will go to St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry in Marshfield.

Anne Teska reported on the recent MAREA display at Marshfield Public Library.

Denk reported she and Vice President Kathleen Hasenohrl and Membership Chair Carol Ely recently attended the Big Picture training. MAREA officers have the capability to access information from the state office via Big Picture.

Carol Ballerstein, District 3 co-director, reported on the Marathon County Retired Educators meeting she and Carol Subera attended. Bob Collin, secretary of the Department of Employee Trust Funds, was the speaker. Ballerstein shared the outcome of the Act 32 study.

The speaker at the Jan. 21 meeting will be Tony Schultz of Athens, on organic farming. Any area retired educator or staff interested in joining WREA/MAREA is invited to contact Carol Ely of Athens of Carol Ballerstein of Stratford for more information.
