Former NHL star Grant Fuhr will receive 'Nice Guy' award at Red Smith banquet

Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Grant Fuhr will receive the 2013 Scheels Sports "Nice Guy" Award at the Red Smith Sports Award Banquet next month.

The banquet will be held Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 6:30 p.m. at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in Appleton.

The Edmonton Oilers made Fuhr the eighth overall pick in the 1981 NHL Draft. During the next 10 seasons, he led the Oilers to five Stanley Cup championships between 1984 and 1990. He went on to play for the Toronto Maple Leafs (1991-92), Buffalo Sabres (1993-94), Los Angeles Kings (1994), St. Louis Blues (1995-98) and Calgary Flames (1990). ...
