Job figures send mixed signals, but businesses optimistic for 2013

Job figures released this week gave mixed news about the state of employment in the Wausau area as 2012 comes to an end.

On the negative side, unemployment in the Wausau area jumped to 6.3 percent in November, up from 5.6 percent in October, according to figures released Thursday by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. The unemployment rate is just 0.2 percent better than it was in November 2011.

The good news is that the Wausau area was home to 68,400 jobs in November, according to the DWD. While the number is down from 69,000 jobs in October, the job total is up 1,400 jobs from ...
