Peterson says he'll make another run at the record

Jan. 1, 2013

If you think Adrian Petersonís run at Eric Dickersonís single-season NFL rushing record was a one-time shot, think again.

The Vikings running back, who came up 9 yards short of Dickersonís mark of 2,105 yards, said today he will make another run at it.

ďOh, without a doubt,Ē Peterson said on a conference call with reporters who cover the Packers. ďWithout a doubt. Just considering everything that I know, when I try to track back on different games that I had early on in the season and sitting out the third and fourth quarters in one or two games, 35 carries mores he had than I had. You know, it would have been nice to get it but Iím not too bummed about it because Iím able to factor all of those things in. It will just give me something else to shoot for next year. My goal wonít be to break Eric Dickersonís single-season record. Itís going to be trying to get 2,400, 2,500 yards. Thatís just how I look at things. With me setting it that high, then, obviously, breaking his record will happen.Ē

Peterson said he hasnít become consumed with wondering where he couldíve found 9 more yards..

ďI definitely have thought about, but Iíve tried to more past it, man,Ē Peterson said. ďIím looking at it like, hey it is what it is, Iíll get another opportunity to cruise past it.Ē

In other noteworthy items from Petersonís conference call:

* He was asked about B.J. Rajiís finger wag during Sundayís game and said: ďAh man, heís an outstanding player, man. Iíve always had respect for him being just a diverse player. A big guy, 320 pounds, 330 pounds. Short, stubby but strong as an ox and just extremely quick and athletic. You donít see big guys like that. It wouldnít surprise me if he could dunk a basketball. But I enjoy playing against him. He definitely made some good plays, some good stops, some good tackles on me and I had my share where I got him a couple of times as well.Ē

* On why heís been so good against the Packers, rushing for 409 yards in the two games this season: ďMaybe itís just the rivalry, man. Yeah, thatís what it is. Itís a rivalry and itís taking whatís on the line. Thereís more emphasis on that game because we know thatís a team that we have to beat in order to accomplish our goals weíve set forth. Maybe that has something to do with it.Ē

* On whether the Vikings have some momentum heading into the playoffs: ďYeah, I feel like weíre playing some good ball right now in all phases. Weíre playing some inspired football, coaches included. I feel like if we just continue to play the way we have, playing Viking football, then the skyís the limit. This is what we talked about at the end of last season going into training camp and earlier this season. Even though we started off hot and got kind of cold but we were able to get back on track. I feel like weíre peaking at the right time. So, yes, I feel like we can make that run, but itís all about taking it one game at a time.Ē
