Tuesday practice report: Woodson's real return

Jan. 1, 2013

Packers safety Charles Woodson has been practicing for the last month but until today, it was only on scout team.

So when he took reps with the starting defense in practice today, it was a sign that he's finally back.

Woodson missed the final nine games of the regular season after breaking his collarbone on Oct. 21 at St. Louis. If all goes well this week, it appears he will play in Saturday's NFC wild-card playoff game against the Vikings at Lambeau Field.

Receiver Randall Cobb, who was inactive for the regular-season finale at Minnesota because of the ankle injury he sustained a week earlier, also looked to be full go in practice.

However, receiver Jordy Nelson was among those not practicing. Nelson left last Sunday's game with a knee injury but returned late in the game after another receiver, Jarrett Boykin, went down. Boykin (ankle) also didn't practice. Neither did DE Jerel Worthy, who sustained what is believed to be a season-ending knee injury.

Running back James Starks, who missed the last four games because of a knee injury, was in practice gear today but didn't appear to do anything during the portion open to the media.

We'll have more information when coach Mike McCarthy speaks following practice within the hour.
