Driver hasn't made a decision on retirement yet

Jan. 1, 2013

Donald Driver knows his career with the Green Bay Packers almost certainly will end after this playoff run, but the teamís all-time leading receiver said he hasnít decided if he will retire or try to keep his career alive with another team.

ďI have to sit down with my wife and kids,Ē Driver said. ďThatís the toughest decision to make, and right now I havenít made that decision. I have to make that decision soon.Ē

Not that the 37-year-old needed any reminders that he was being phased out of the teamís plans ó his limited role this season in which he has just eight catches for 77 yards while appearing in 13 games has told him that time and again ó but he was a healthy inactive for what will probably go down as his last regular-season game with the team that drafted him in 1999. Driver said the thumb injury he has battled in the second half of the season was not a factor in being scratched for last Sundayís finale at Minnesota.

However, Driver could get back in the mix in Saturdayís wild-card game against the Vikings at Lambeau Field. Two receivers, Jarrett Boykin and Jordy Nelson, missed Tuesdayís practice. Boykin, the rookie who was active instead of Driver, sustained an ankle injury on Sunday, while Nelson injured his knee but returned to finish the game.

ďWhen my opportunity presents itself, Iíll be ready. Iíve always done it that way,Ē Driver said. ďThereís no need to try and change it. I mean, do you get frustrated? Of course you do. The competitive side comes out and you know you can still play, but it also is a business and sometimes youíve got to look at the situation and your age catches up with you before your performance, and thatís probably what happened to me because I havenít lost anything. But that number of age is a big number. Iíll be 38 in less than a month but sometimes age doesnít matter. Thatís the thing, but in this business age does matter.Ē
