Stevens Point Area Public School Board President Dwight Stevens will not seek re-election this spring, while seven other candidates will run for four available seats.

Incumbents Lisa Totten and Kim Shirek will appear on the April 2nd ballot along with former board members Jeff Presley and Lynda Louis and candidates Sam Levin, Jeff Ebel and Terry Rothmann. Candidates had until Wednesday to file nomination papers.

Karlyn Krautkramer, administrative assistant to the district's director of business services, said there won't be a primary because of the number of seats up for election. The fourth seat is currently held by Jen Zach, who was appointed to fill the vacancy left after Elmer Fournier passed away this past February.

According to Krautkramer, who manages school board and referendum elections for the district, the fourth-highest vote-getter in April's election will take over the seat and serve for one year until the spring 2014 election, which was when Fournier's original term was set to expire. The top three vote-getters, meanwhile, will each be elected to three-year terms.
