Police encounter few drunken drivers during holiday

The new year brought below-zero temperatures and a fairly quiet night for local police, who credit safe ride programs for the low number of drunken driving offenses.

The Marathon County Sheriff's Department arrested two people Monday night and Tuesday morning on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, Lt. Dale Wisnewski said.

"That's probably what we see on a typical weekend night," he said Tuesday. "It hasn't been a major problem for us." ...
